The 6th Edition of the SS-00259 for General Use was Released
The SS-00259 for General Use is an electronic version of the printed SS-00259, which is intended for the exclusive use of our business partners. The SS-00259 defines "Controlled Substances" that, in our judgment, have a significant impact on the global environment and may harm human health. It aims to ban or phase out the use of them in the process of design, manufacture, and distribution of products. Sony is committed to manufacturing environmental products in compliance with the SS-00259 and contributing towards the protection of the global environment and ecosystems.
The Sixth Edition of the SS-00259 for General Use was released on March 1,2007. The major revision of SS-00259 6th Edition focus on adding three items of testing, including:
Beryllium oxide, Beryllium copper, Specific phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, DNOP, DNHP), Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC), Perfluorocarbon (PFC). And it revised the “Targets”, “Management standards” and “Effective date of the ban on the delivery” of some controlled substances. Sony will obey all applicable laws and regulations prohibiting or restricting the use of substances that may not be explicitly stated in the SS-00259.
Scope applicable to parts and materials Semi-finished products Parts Screws Accessories (mice, remote commanders, AC adaptors, etc. ) Materials constituting subsidiary parts and materials (e.g. adhesives, adhesive tape, soldering materials, etc. ) used for products Instruction manuals Repair parts Packaging materials that parts suppliers use for delivery and protection Batteries Scope applicable to products Sony electronics products that are designed and manufactured by the Sony group for sale, loan, or distribution Sony electronics products being sold and loaned or distributed with the Sony group’s logos on them, whose design and/or manufacture are outsourced to third parties Third parties’ electronics products whose design and/or manufacture are outsourced to the Sony group (except when the parts and materials are specified by the third parties) Difference between SS-00259 5th and 6th Edition Compared with Fifth Edition, The Sixth Edition of the SS-00259 added three items of testing, including:
Beryllium oxide, Beryllium copper, Specific phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIDP, DNOP, DNHP), Hydrofluorocarbon (HFC), Perfluorocarbon (PFC). And it revised the “Targets”, “Management standards” and “Effective date of the ban on the delivery” of the PVC and Heavy meals (cadmium and lead) for batteries.
