No. 32/2008 The European Commission starts on public consultation on the Draft of the Risk Assessment Guidelines for non-food Consumer Products. Target groups are Member State competent authorities and stakeholders. The consultation starts on July 15, 2008 and closes on October 15, 2008, lasting for three months.
Objective The Guidelines are specifically designed for risk assessors from the Member State market surveillance authorities who are dealing with non-food consumer products within the framework of Directive 2001/95/EC on General Product Safety, which establishes the RAPEX system and aims to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of products posing a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. They consist of three steps:
Identification of the hazard of the product and its seriousness when causing an injury to the consumer

Determination of the probability that a consumer is indeed injured by the hazard

Combination of the seriousness with the probability to estimate the level of risk Online Consultation In IPM the session time is limited to 90 minutes which means that you should submit your reply within this time. If you exceed this timeframe, your replies will unfortunately not be recorded. You can read the questionnaire beforehand by downloading this pdf-document.
Note: RAPEX system RAPEX is the EU rapid alert system for all dangerous consumer products, with the exception of food, pharmaceutical and medical devices. It allows for the rapid exchange of information between Member States via central contact points and the Commission of measures taken to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of products posing a serious risk to the health and safety of consumers. Both measures ordered by national authorities and measures taken voluntarily by producers and distributors are covered by RAPEX.
Every Friday, the Commission publishes a weekly overview of the dangerous products reported by the national authorities (the RAPEX notifications). This weekly overview gives you all information on the product, the possible danger and the measures that were taken by the reporting country.
