EU REACH: ECHA Recommends 13 SVHCS for Authorization
On December 21, 2011, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) recommended the European Commission (EC) to add 13 more substances in Annex XIV of REACH regulation, the list of substances subject to authorization. These substances have Carcinogenic, Mutagenic, and Reprotoxic (CMR) properties. Currently, the EC is taking a final decision on their inclusion and deciding which ones will be included in Annex XIV of REACH.
According to the draft Commission Regulation, after the date specified for each substance ("sunset date"), the placing on the market and the use of those substances in the EU will only be possible for those operators who have been granted an authorisation in accordance with Articles 60-64 of REACH and for those who have submitted an application for authorisation before a given date ("latest application date"), but a decision has not yet been adopted.
