The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) announced that the 8th batch of the proposed list was passed by the Member State Committee (MSC) on 17th of December 2012. Fifty-four more substances were added to the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) Candidate List.

These substances are identified as SVHC in accordance with Article 57 due to their potentially serious effects on human health or the environment. Three of fifty-four SVHC items, namely diazene-1,2-dicarboxamide (ADCA), hexahydro-2-benzofuran-1,3-dione (HHPA) and hexahydromethylphthalic anhydride (MHHPA), MSC considered that these substances are strong respiratory sensitizers and are giving rise to an equivalent level of concern (EQC) to those of other SVHCs such as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR).

The SVHC candidate list now contains 138 substances in total, and the updated Candidate List published on 19th December 2012 on ECHA's website.
