Furniture and Non-Ferrous Refined Metals to be Regulated under BIS Scheme I (ISI Mark)
The India Government announced that several product categories will be regulated under its ISI scheme. Please refer to the above table and the below descriptions for the applicable standards and items.
- Furniture must be ISI-certified starting from February 12, 2026.

MHI announced extension of implementation timeline under the Electrical Equipment (Quality Control) Second Amendment Order, 2024, on May 5, 2025. The implementation date for below product categories has extended from May 10, 2025 to November 10, 2025.

First Meeting Minutes of the Technical Committee of Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (OTR) Order, 2024
Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) released the first meeting minutes of the Technical Committee for monitoring and streamlining the implementation of the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024 on May 9, 2025. The main points for the Pre-Registration Portal (OTR) are as follows:
- The BIS pre-registration portal has helped BIS assess the anticipated workload and identify priority sectors requiring focused attention.
- Over 494 Indian manufacturers and 1115 foreign manufacturers are already registered.
- The most of registrations comes from the textile machinery and electrical equipment sectors.
Date of Scheme I (ISI Mark) Implementation for Household, Commercial, and Similar Electrical Appliances Extended
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued the Safety of Household, Commercial, and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025 on May 19, 2025. The main changes are as follows:
- Extended the date of Scheme I (ISI Mark) implementation to March 19, 2026.
- Removed electric fence energizers and electric hand lamps and added the below items.
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated vacuum cleaners
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated shavers, trimmers, clippers, and similar appliances
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated massage appliances
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated blenders and juicers
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated toothbrushes and other oral hygiene appliances
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated foot warmers and heating mats
- DC-supplied/ battery-operated air purifiers
