RSS-102 RF Exposure Compliance of Radiocommunication Apparatus (All Frequency Bands) Issue 6 (as attached file) went into force as of its publication on December 15, 2023, along with a transition period of 12 months following its publication during which compliance with either Issue 5 or Issue 6 is accepted. After the transition period ends, only compliance with RSS-102 Issue 6 will be accepted. The main changes are:
1. Additional edge SAR is required when the antennas are located within the keyboard section.
2. Here is an example with corresponding testing positions and limits:
- Antenna 1
- Front edge and bottom side: 1.6 W/kg, 1g
- Left edge and top side: 4 W/kg, 10g
- Antenna 2
- Front edge and bottom side: 1.6 W/kg, 1g
- Right edge and top side: 4 W/kg, 10g
- Antenna 3
- Left edge: 4 W/kg, 10g
- Bottom side: 1.6 W/kg, 1g
- Antenna 4
- Right edge: 4 W/kg, 10g
- Bottom side: 1.6 W/kg, 1g
3. Hand exposure during next-to-head voice calls
If the device meets all of the following requirements
- Capable of next-to-head voice calls where the audio is routed to the earpiece
- Transmitting antennas are located on the bottom half of the device
- Employs higher power levels in voice calls than in interactive hand-use exposure cases and the predicted hand SAR at voice power levels are above the hand SAR limit (4 W/kg)
Then additional hand SAR testing shall be required by measuring at:
- 0mm against the flat phantom for the left, right, and bottom edges of the device
- 10mm distance from the flat phantom for the back side of the device
