New Products Subject to CCC Certification

State Administration for Market Regulation of China released announcement No. 09/2024 to add new products to be subjected to CCC certification starting from April 7, 2024. The main points are as follows:

  • Commercial gas cooking appliances, flame retardant wires and cables, electric toilets, rider helmets of electric bicycles, combustible gas detection alarms, water-based interior wall paint, explosion-proof lamps, and control devices will be subject to CCC certification.
    - From May 1, 2025, rider helmets of electric bicycles, explosion-proof lamps, and control devices must be CCC certified and marked with a CCC logo before being shipped, imported, sold, or used in business activities. Accredited certifying bodies shall start accepting CCC applications upon the effective date.
    - From July 1, 2025, commercial gas cooking appliances, flame retardant wires and cables, electric toilets, combustible gas detection alarms, and water-based interior wall paint must be CCC certified and marked with a CCC logo before being shipped, imported, sold, or used in business activities. Accredited certifying bodies shall start accepting CCC applications upon the effective date.

  • Low-voltage components are to resume being subject to the regular CCC certification process.

From November 1, 2024, all low-voltage components must be CCC certified and marked with a CCC logo before being shipped, imported, sold, or used in business activities. Accredited certifying bodies shall start accepting CCC applications upon the effective date, and the CCC Self-Declaration System shall stop issuing self-declaration letters for low-voltage components. All effective self-declaration letters shall be submitted to accredited certifying bodies to be converted to CCC certificates from the effective date, and original self-declaration letters shall be revoked. Products already out on the market and no longer in production need not apply the certificate conversion. The CCC Self-Declaration System shall revoke all self-declaration letters of low-voltage components from the system after the effective date.

Ministry of Communications and Informatics released Regulation Number 260 of 2024 Short Range Device Technical Standard on May 13, 2024, effective 90 days after the release date. This regulation will replace Regulation No. 161 of 2019. The main points are as follows:

  • Bluetooth: no update
  • Near Field Communication (NFC): no update
  • Radio Frequency Identification (RFID): new frequency allocation added
  • Ultra Wide Band (UWB): newly included
  • Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN) IEEE 802.15.4: new frequency allocation added
  • Cordless Telephone: newly included
  • Wireless Power Transmission: newly included

To introduce the Wi-Fi 7 WLAN technology, the Korean National Radio Research Agency (RRA) announced revisions to the Wi-Fi 7 testing methods in the existing wireless testing standard KS X 3123, including an additional testing method for multiple RUs and antenna power.

MCMC Cancels Usage of 3400 – 3700 MHz Frequency Band

Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced the cancellation of the use of the 3,400 – 3,700 MHz frequency band for fixed-satellite service (FSS) earth stations and the ultra-wideband (UWB) communication devices, effective from June 01, 2025. The usage of any equipment and devices in the aforesaid frequency band shall not be allowed from the effective date.

The Philippine National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) held a public hearing on May 23, 2024, to discuss the amendment of Section 2 of Memorandum Circular No. 03-05-2007. The planned amendment includes opening the 5925-6425 MHz frequency band for use by Wireless Local Area Networks (RLAN) and High-Performance Radio Local Area Networks (HIPERLAN) short-range devices (SRDs).

Saudi Arabia SASO Updates New Requirements for HS Code

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) updated the requirements for the following HS Codes, the main points are as follows:

  • Products having valid SABER certificates with the below HS Codes will need to consider standards unifying port types (USB Type-C port) and comply with the standard SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2017 and SASO-IEC 62680-1-3:2017 starting from August 1, 2024.
  • From October 1, 2024, previously issued SABER certificates that do not meet the new requirement will become invalid.
