On December 13, 2024, SGS hosted the 2nd "SGS Taiwan Green Sustainability Achievement Conference" at the 88th floor of Taipei 101. The event brought together industry leaders to celebrate collective achievements under the theme "Sustainability and Innovation: Creating the Future." Thirty Taiwanses companies were honored for their outstanding performance in green and sustainable development, highlighting Taiwan’s extraordinary progress in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives. The conference not only showcased these remarkable achievements but also injected fresh momentum into the pursuit of a sustainable future.

Denny Huang, SGS Taiwan Ltd. Vice Managing Director, stated in his opening address, "As global environmental awareness grows, enterprises play a crucial role in advancing sustainable development. SGS is committed to providing innovative solutions to empower enterprises in navigating ESG trends and meeting international standards. Through this conference, we aim to inspire more companies to join the sustainability journey and contribute to achieving global sustainability goals."

This year, SGS was ranked 6th on TIME’s 2024 Global Most Sustainable Companies list, highlighting its leadership in sustainability. SGS will continue leveraging its expertise and global resources to support Taiwanese businesses, becoming a key partner in areas such as restricted substances testing, sustainable material certification, carbon footprint assessment, and green supply chain management.

Best Partner for Eco-Label Awards: Advancing Green Product Innovation

Winners of the Best Partner for Eco-Label Awards included Microsoft Taiwan Corp., Duplo Taiwan Corp., Everlight Intelligence Technology Co., Ltd., Super Micro Computer, Inc., ViewSonic Corporation, Clientron Corp., GN Audio Taiwan Ltd., and others.

These companies have embraced innovative technologies to enhance product design, material selection, and energy efficiency. For instance, Microsoft’s Surface Copilot+ PC series features casings made from 100% recycled aluminum alloy and recycled rare earth metals, with plans to eliminate single-use plastic packaging by 2025. ViewSonic became the first company globally to achieve EPEAT Gold certification in the digital signage display category, with a packaging recycling rate exceeding 90% and a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050. These efforts not only demonstrate environmental responsibility but also set industry benchmarks.

Recycling and Circular Economy Awards: Establishing Models for Circular Economies

Winners of the Recycling and Circular Economy Awards included TAITA Chemical Company, Limited; Jiafenz Plastic Industrial Co., Ltd.; Yuan Workshop Company Ltd.; Nytex Composites Co., Ltd.; Walsin Lihwa Corporation; and Shuter Enterprise Co., Ltd.

TAITA Chemical’s TAIECORTM material, certified under ISO 14021, has successfully turned production waste into recycled materials, becoming a leading brand in the field. Yuan Workshop embodies the spirit of "local production, community giving" by achieving low-carbon production and applying 95% PCR eco-friendly materials in product packaging, exceeding regulatory requirements, and setting a sustainability benchmark in the cosmetics industry. Shuter Enterprise effectively improved resource utilization through smart production and recycled material application, showcasing exemplary practices in recycling and circular economy efforts.

Restricted Substances Awards: Strengthening Green Supply Chains

Recipients of the Restricted Substances Awards included Taiwan Uyemura Co., Ltd.; Taiwan Taiyo Ink Co., Ltd.; Pioneer Material Precision Tech. Co., Ltd.; Zyxel Communications Corp.; BenQ Materials Corporation; Microtest Corporation; Senao Networks, Inc.; Wistron NeWeb Corporation; and Accton Technology Corporation.

These companies have minimized the use of restricted substances through stringent material selection and supply chain management. Taiwan Uyemura, for example, adopted ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems, developing comprehensive strategies for waste reduction and hazard prevention, achieving a win-win outcome for environmental protection and economic growth.

Carbon Management Awards: Leading the Low-Carbon Transformation

Winners of the Carbon Management Awards included Delta Electronics, Inc.; Taiwan-Ranborg Enterprise Co., Ltd.; Pioneer Material Precision Tech. Co., Ltd.; Golden Tree Plastics Co., Ltd.; Limao Co., Ltd.; Poindus Systems Corp.; and Swanson Plastics Corporation.

Swanson Plastics successfully calculated the carbon footprint of its bulk bag products using Smart PCF carbon auditing services, with plans to reduce carbon emissions by 27% by 2030. Delta Electronics continues to advance energy efficiency and renewable energy applications, earning widespread recognition for its carbon management strategies. These companies’ initiatives provide a driving force for the global transition to a low-carbon economy.
