The importance of the industry towards sustainability and the credibility of its supply chain

All countries and industries are following their plans to contribute toward the zero-waste sustainability goals. The global pandemic has been a wake-up call for upstream and downstream industries’ high demand on recycled materials and high-value utilization of waste. Embracing the cradle-to-grave concept requires a significant redesign of the supply chain to expand product’s life cycle. Hence, the maximum reuse and allocation of resources is even more crucial. Early on, many vendors were self- declared they use additives for recycled materials. However, the credibility of these statements was often questioned. To ensure that recycled materials come from verifiable sources, SGS verifies the two sources of pre- and post-consumer recycled content in products defined by ISO 14021:2016. SGS, as a impartial third-party certification body (CB), will issue a recycled material content verification certificate once the corresponding requests meet the standards requirements and additives for recycled materials from the product has been under review by SGS.
