SGS has completed the qualification review process for Notified Body status under the EU Battery Regulation, supporting customers in meeting the Regulation’s new requirements. SGS provides services including battery compliance system audits, product carbon footprint assessments, and recycled material verification.

SGS Completes Qualification Review for Notified Body Status under the EU Battery Regulation

SGS FIMKO, part of SGS, an internationally recognized testing, inspection, and certification organization, has successfully completed the qualification review for designation as a Notified Body under the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. The application has now entered the review process with the relevant EU competent authorities, marking a key step toward obtaining official Notified Body status.

Upon completion of the official notification procedure, SGS FIMKO will formally become a third-party Notified Body qualified to conduct conformity assessment under the Regulation. This will enable SGS to provide globally recognized conformity assessment services and support for battery companies seeking access to the EU market.

This application was technically supported by SGS’s Electrical, Electronics, Chemical Analysis and Sustainability Services teams, together with experts from the SGS Product Carbon Footprint Center. SGS continues to strengthen its local service capabilities to meet future conformity assessment needs under the EU Battery Regulation.

As the review process progresses, SGS will continue to enhance its related services and help the battery industry stay up to date with the latest requirements of the EU Battery Regulation.

The industry is also reminded that the due diligence requirements under the EU Battery Regulation will officially take effect on August 18, 2027. SGS’s expert team is committed to helping companies at different stages of preparation comply with the Regulation’s requirements, including:
