The Telecommunications Digital Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has announced that shutdown of 2G network (GSM) in the UAE will take place at the end of 2022, with directing resources allocated to 5G to support new generations of mobile networks. Meanwhile, UAE service providers will provide all means of support to Groups that may be affected by the 2G shutdown.

Aruba Aruba DTZ

Directie Telecommunicatiezaken​ (DTZ), who is the authority in charge of approving telecommunications equipment in Aruba has updated the validity for type approval certificates. Aruba DTZ certificate is now valid for 5 years.

 

Australia Australia ACMA

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) released the Radiocommunications Equipment (General) Rules 2021 on May 27, 2021. These rules are under the Radiocommunications Act 1992 and came into force on June 17, 2021. The General Equipment Rules will maintain existing standards and labelling notices as well as exempt certain cellular phone repeaters.

 

Botswana Botswana BOCRA

The Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) released Type Approval Verification Guidelines for SIM-Enabled Devices on July 7, 2021. And it will require SIM enabled devices to be registered online prior to their activation by the mobile operators. This Guidelines will come into effect on April 1, 2022.

 

Brazil Brazil ANATEL

Brazil ANATEL released the Act Nº 5205 related to guideline of Declaration of Conformity (DoC) with ANATEL Brand on July 29, 2021. The DoC procedure is similar to the regular certification, but the applicant (local rep) can apply the procedure directly with ANATEL without requiring the Designated Certification Body.

The DoC with ANATEL Brand is applicable only for a few types of equipment according to Act Nº 7280, such as Fiber Optic Connector, Connector for Coaxial Cable, xDSL Filter – Switch Splitter, Aerial Optical Terminal Box, Underground Optical Terminal Box, Underground Optical Terminal Box for Residential Areas and Small Commercial Buildings etc.

This DoC procedure does not require the certificate renewal. The certificate is valid for lifetime.

 

Egypt Egypt NTRA

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) of Egypt has approved voice calls via 4G Technology (VoLTE) for the purpose of enhancing the voice calls quality. Therefore, VoLTE equipment can now be type-approved with the same type approval procedure.

 

India India MeitY

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), released Compulsory Registration for product categories notified under the schedule of the "Electronics and IT Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012" on July 22, 2021.

In this regard, it is clarified that:

  • The products are covered under the Order irrespective of the HS codes
  • The Wireless Microphones, Bluetooth, Smart Speakers are notified under CRO
    *The wired microphones are not covered under the CRO
  • The speakers as a component are not covered under the Order
  • The finished cameras being used in automotive are covered under the scope of CRO
  • The cameras, if imported as integral part of the vehicle, would not attract the provisions of CRO
  • The notified goods in open form /which do not have a specific model number are not covered under the Order

 

Israel Israel MoC

The Ministry of Communications (MoC) of Israel has set the timeline to phase out 2G and 3G networks by the end of 2025. The planned phases are as follows:

  • From January 1, 2022, the commercial importation of mobile devices that support only old technologies will be prohibited
  • From January 1, 2023, the connection of new mobile devices to the networks that support only old technologies will be ceased, including vehicle-based hands-free devices and M2M end equipment
  • From December 31, 2025, the service of 2G and 3G networks will be shut down

 

Kenya Kenya CAK

Since the middle of July, The Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) has stopped issuing Provisional Type Approval certificate which is valid only for 6 months, and will directly issue final Type Approval certificates with permanent validity.

 

Malaysia Malaysia MCMC

MCMC released the 2021 version of the Class Assignment No.1, which replaced the 2020 version of the Class Assignment No.1. Main changes have been reflected in the previously released new versions of the technical standards, including the addition of new frequency bands, removal usage of some frequency band, and removal of Lease Channel Radio Access devices schedule.

Class Assignment No.1 2021 includes product categories ranging from SRD to mobile communication access equipment, which has come into effect since June 9, 2021.

 

Mauritius Mauritius ICTA

The Information & Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) of Mauritius released an announcement on June 17, 2021, that 5G NR (FR1 only) is available in Mauritius and three operators got the authorization to deploy their respective 5G NR wireless network. The three operators and respective frequency spectrum are as follows:

  • Emtel Ltd: 2.5GHz
  • Mahanagar Telephone Mauritius Ltd -MTML: The lower portion of 3.5 GHz
  • Cellplus Ltd: The upper portion of 3.5 GHz

 

Russia Russia

The Government of the Russian Federation issued Resolution 955 on June 21, 2021 which approved the new marking of GOST-R certification. From now on, products that passed GOST-R conformity assessment should bear CTP mark, with exceptions for production that have been approved before the effectiveness date, can continue to enter Russian market with the old PCT mark until the expiry date of issued certificates.

Singapore Singapore IMDA

The Information and Communication Media Development Authority (IMDA) released the latest version of the IMDA TS SRD regulations on August 2, 2021. The main impacts on manufacturers are as follows:

  • If the product meets the following assumptions, it will need to provide a safety test report that meets IEC62368-1 requirement
    1. SRD is powered by a dedicated external power supply (charger/power adapter); and
    2. SRD operates with SELV in environments where overvoltage from telecommunication networks is not possible. SELV (safety extra-low voltage) refers to voltages not exceeding 42.4 V peak or 60 V DC
  • There is an additional Conformity Assessment Checklist for SRD which need to comply with and filled in, please check Annex A in the regulation

 

Singapore Singapore NEA

Singapore National Environment Agency (NEA) released a new requirement on June 8, 2021. From January 1, 2022, NEA will enhance the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) of four appliance types that it regulated, the purpose is to help households become more energy efficient, contribute to reducing carbon emissions, and mitigate climate change. The new MEPS levels for the following four appliances are as follows:

  • Refrigerators – Two ticks
  • Clothes dryers – Two ticks
  • Casement and window air-conditioners – Two ticks
  • Split-type air-conditioners – MEPS raised by seven per cent within the two-tick level.

 

Uganda United Arab Emirates TDRA

Uganda Uganda UCC

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) of Uganda warned through a public notice on July 26, 2021, against the unauthorized use of boosters on mobile networks because it affects the quality of service. This notice has come into effect since April 1, 2022.
