ELECTRIC & ELECTRONIC - RESTRICTED SUBSTANCES TESTING SERVICES
In the 1990s, responding to the export demands of the textile and toy industries, SGS established a comprehensive chemical laboratory in Taiwan to provide chemical and physical testing services. With the rise of global environmental consciousness, regulations on environmental protection have become increasingly stringent.
In 2003, the European Union passed the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, which came into effect in July 2006, restricting the import of electronic and electrical products containing four heavy metals and two brominated flame retardants into the EU.
This marked the beginning of global green product development, leading to the official renaming of the SGS Comprehensive Chemical Laboratory to SGS Restricted Substances Testing Services for Electronics and Electrical Products.
Today, SGS Restricted Substances Testing Services has offices and laboratories in Taipei, Hsinchu, and Kaohsiung, providing convenient services to manufacturers of electronics and electrical products.
In recent years, various governments and leading international companies have successively introduced green product regulations, such as RoHS, REACH, POPs, PFAS, EU Battery Regulation, Product Carbon Footprint, CBAM, STBi, ESG-related services, Recycled Material Content Certification, GB VOC, Eco-design, Packaging Laws, and more. It is clear that global environmental protection regulations have become inevitable and are green issues that enterprises must address for sustainable business practices.
