Indoor Air Quality Self-Management Mark

Double Certification for Self- Management Indoor Air Quality Mark: Safeguarding the Indoor Air Quality You Care About
Despite the easing of government pandemic restrictions and the transition into a post-pandemic era, the importance of ensuring clean indoor air quality remains a constant concern. In an effort to promote the creation of high-quality indoor air environments in various locations for public use, the Ministry of Environmental Protection announced the "Operating Guidelines for the Promotion of the Self-Management Mark for Indoor Air Quality" on July 2, 2021. Specific public places can voluntarily apply for certification as carefully selected and well-maintained venues. The public can also utilize the Central Government Official Website to check for venues that have been awarded the certification, allowing them to be proactive in selecting places with superior indoor air quality. Locations that meet regulatory standards not only receive the Ministry of Environmental Protection's self-management mark but also obtain the SGS Excellent Indoor Air Quality Certification, providing double certification for added peace of mind. These venues become the preferred choices for the public seeking high-quality indoor air environments.
Which types of venues does the Indoor Air Quality Self-Management Mark apply to?
The Ministry of Environment currently provides the option to apply for the Indoor Air Quality Self-Management Mark in 19 different venue categories. These categories include institutions such as universities, libraries, airports, theaters, sports and fitness facilities, kindergartens, postnatal care institutions, childcare centers, museums and art galleries, hospitals, social welfare organizations, government agencies, financial institutions, exhibition centers, railway stations, cinemas, KTV, shopping malls (hypermarkets), and Mass Rapid Transit(MRT). The regulatory authority classifies testing items based on the characteristics of each venue, and for simplicity, they can be categorized into 5 groups, as illustrated in the diagram below.
What are the standards for the Indoor Air Quality Self-Management Mark?
The Indoor Air Quality Self-Management Mark is divided into Excellent Grade and Good Grade. The testing items include carbon dioxide (CO2) and formaldehyde (HCHO) as common elements. Other items such as carbon monoxide (CO), particulate matter (PM10), and bacteria are selectively chosen based on the type of venue.
Monitoring is conducted using the average of continuous measurements. For instance, the continuous monitoring average for carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide is calculated over an 8-hour period, while formaldehyde is based on a 1-hour continuous monitoring average. It is crucial to ensure uninterrupted power supply throughout the monitoring period to prevent data loss and sampling failure.
If the results comply with the current regulations for indoor air quality management, it meets the criteria for the Good Grade Mark. While the standards for the Excellent Grade Mark are more stringent, the validity period is extended from 2 to 3 years compared to the Good Grade Mark.
Refer to the diagram below for the specific standards for each testing item.
