Antibiotic testing in water

The presence of antibiotic residues in water bodies not only contributes to the emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant strains, but also poses a potential threat to aquatic ecosystems and public health.
In response, the Ministry of Environment amended and promulgated certain provisions of the Regulations Governing Water Pollution Control Measures and Testing Reporting Management on January 20, 2025 , incorporating antibiotics as regulated targets under water pollution reduction management.
As a laboratory accredited by the Ministry of Environment, SGS is equipped to test for nine regulated pharmaceuticals, including: acetaminophen, sulfamethoxazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, ceftazidime, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, metformin, and 17β-estradiol. SGS offers relevant testing services to assist organizations in complying with regulatory requirements, enhancing water quality management, and strengthening environmental risk control.
